As teachers incorporate technology into their classrooms, the challenge is promoting the skills it takes for students to get from ideas to publication. Students need to learn how to communicate safely online. This session will introduce backchannel technology to engage students into practicing content driven, analytical feedback, that is easily monitored or assessed, leading to publications such as blogs, Wikis, Edmodo, or other media tools. Google Hangouts allow students to expand their thinking and communication beyond the classroom audience. Students are able to recognize the rigor it takes to produce communications I beyond remembering and understanding to analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, and publishing. Student will use Google Hangout to promote thinking, debate, and interact live with parents, students, and other school officials. Using Google Calendar, teachers can invite anyone to join in on the conversation.
